What up Hip Hop

Big up, peace and shout out to you if you’re surviving, extra-special shout if you’re finding bits of joy to hang on to (on some Tarzan shit, until we drop into the next disaster). It’s… getting pretty bad over here. I have friends and co-workers that I am genuinely concerned for. People getting snatched off the street not far from where I am writing this. I spent a couple nights in a row recently, recording some new joints with Blak Madeen and some AL-J solo stuff as well. My usual commute to the studio takes me right through the campus of Tufts University, near where Rumeysa Ozturk was abducted. There have been some protests but there is a distinct vibe in the air, people are scared or at least very cautious to do anything that might get the finger pointed at them. It is sad, and the abductions continue.

All this stress has found a good outlet - been doing some spring cleaning and it feels good to put your head down and get something done that is tangible. Yard work of course, but I have cleaned up and redesigned the website as well. 
With the update comes all new merch designs, this time featuring all new Al-J merch and it is fly as hell! I have been thinking for a long while now about a logo for AL-J, it’s been sorely missing. I finally came up with a decent enough idea and got a very enthusiastic stamp of approval from the man himself. So I promptly got to work. I designed a red, black and green hockey jersey with “Al-J 75” across the back (insert several fire emojis). Also on offer is a dope-ass basketball jersey. We got Al-J t-shirts and hoodies of course, it is getting to be shorts and hoodie weather after all (for those that participate). As far as the tunes go, we have been hard at work. Recorded a Blak Madeen track and another one for me and Al-J. We are racking them up steadily. Got a verse back the other day from an old school legend and we are looking to get that one out asap so stay tuned for it. More dopeness is being created as each day passes. 

So that is the plan, stay focused on the things I have control over. Stay involved in my community. Try to find joy where I can. Try to keep creative. For as long as possible. Hope you can do similar.

Things worth checking out:

• The Residence (Netflix) - By far the absolute best thing series I have seen in a long time, maybe ever. It is sooooo damn good.
• Also been on a rewatch of Luke Cage and it is better than I remember, def worth a watch if you never caught it in the first place. I love that each episode in the first season is named for a different Gangstarr track, and each episode in the second is named after Pete Rock and C.L. Smooth tracks. That alone is enough to get my respect.
• S2 of Andor is coming up in a couple days, the first season is some of the best Star Wars related stories out there (imo), if you’re into that.
